Eugene "Gene" Field

Eugene “Gene” Field, age 74 of Farmers Branch, passed away unexpectedly on October 12, 2020. He was born on January 14, 1946 at Florence Nightingale Maternity Hospital in Dallas, Texas, the son of Dean Field and Mary Frances Hopkins Field.

Gene was a 1965 graduate of Richland Hills High School, and later attended Arlington College and Texas Wesleyan College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Gene proudly served as an officer in the US Air Force, training first as a T-38 pilot and later advancing to become a B-52 pilot while serving two tours in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. Gene was then stationed at Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, NY where he completed his Master of Business Administration degree and also met his future wife, Susan Hemming. After their marriage in Oriskany, NY on July 7, 1979, Susan joined him at his home in Carrollton, TX where Gene worked for Otis Elevator, and eventually became a general contractor with David Weekly Homes, one of his proudest accomplishments.

Outside of Gene’s military and career achievements, he was also a loyal and trusted friend, often providing sound advice to his loved ones, whether they requested it or not! During their free time, Gene and Susan delighted in spending time with family and friends, traveling and savoring fine wines. Following their retirement in 2016, Gene and Susan enjoyed numerous cruises and adventures across Europe.

Gene was preceded in death by his mother Mary Frances (Hopkins) Christman, father Dean Field, step-father Richard Harry Christman, and step-brother Richard Allan Christman.

Gene is survived by his best friend and wife of 41 years, Susan Mary; sister Mary Jeanette (Christman) Cudmore and husband Michael of Arlington; step-brothers Robert Gerald Christman and wife Pat of Destin, Florida; David Lee Christman and wife Kathy of Bucyrus, Ohio; nephew Christopher Michael Cudmore and wife Meranda and their children Olivia Mae and Owen Michael of Burleson; niece Jennifer Ashley (Cudmore) Johnson and husband Samuel and their daughter Amelia Jeanette of Arlington; cousin Gary Field and wife Linda of Dallas; and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
