Jan Marie Weaver went to our Heavenly home on 22 December 2014 after complications of childbirth of her fourth child. She was born on 20 December 1976 in Houston, Texas to Dr. Marion and Jean McMurtrey. She graduated from Bellaire High School (was the Drum Major) in 1995 and went on to attend college at Texas Tech University. Prior to graduation she married her high-school sweetheart, Rob Weaver. In 2002 she graduated from Texas Tech University magna cum laude with her husband and moved to Houston. She is survived by her husband of 15 years, Rob Weaver; their four beloved children, Emma, Madilyn, Ammon, and Claire; her parents Dr. Marion and Jean McMurtrey, and her loving brother Tom McMurtrey and wife Collette. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Gardina Weaver, sister-in-law Kristyn Pearson and husband Robert, and sister-in-law Marie Crider and husband Ashley, as well as numerous other family members, nieces and nephews.
Jan was passionate about freedom based education and founded Arlington Liber Academy in 2014. Through this homeschooling network, Jan met numerous like-minded friends who worked together to further this type of learning. She inspired many children (and adults) to expand their knowledge through study and exploration to stand for freedom.
Jan was also very talented musically. She sang, composed, taught, and performed. She played the clarinet in High School and College. In College she composed music and played the piano. She also took the vocal choir at Texas Tech by surprise when asked to sing. She sang better than most of the singers in the advanced choir. She was asked why she was not a performance major... her reply... she didn't have the time. Her voice was angelic and sought after when anyone heard her sing. In 2013 she sold her clarinet and purchased a violin and was learning how to play. She played with her brother, Tom, as he played the Cello. Her home was always filled with music.
Jan was a fierce defender of truth. She had many life experiences that shaped her into a person who would stand for truth regardless of the outcome. There was nothing casual about this attribute. It defined who she was. It was tied to her faith and belief that God lives and loves his children. Jan was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served her church in many capacities over the years.
Friends are invited to a visitation with the family at 10:00 AM on December 26, 2014 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3809 Curt Drive, Arlington, TX 76016.
