

Jay Phillip Rushing of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away on April 1, 2026, at the age of 68. He was born on May 11, 1957, in Yuma Arizona, to Harrell "Doc" and Clara Jean (Isaac) Rushing. He was the third of five children, including sister Leslie, brother Guy, sister Melanie, and brother Mark.
His father served 26 years in the U.S. Air Force, so the family moved often. Jay went to schools in Missouri, Kansas, Japan, and Michigan before the family settled in Fort Worth, Texas.
Jay learned to make friends easily and was very popular in school for his good looks and achievements in sports. He graduated from Brewer High School in 1975 and briefly attended North Texas State University.
Jay had many interests and hobbies. He enjoyed working on cars, playing softball, and fishing. He was also a very talented artist.
Jay is predeceased by his parents; his sister, Melanie; brother, Guy; and three infant nephews.
He is survived by his son, Jacob Rushing, and his wife, Celina, their children, Ellie, Jett, and June; his sister, Leslie Purcell, and her husband, Tim, their children, Patrick Purcell, his children, Micah and Haley, Steven Purcell and his wife, Alicia, their children Brendyn, Elizabeth, and Charlotte (Charlee); brother, Mark Rushing, and his wife, Kim, their children Jeremiah Rushing and his wife, Melisa, their children Camden and Melani, Christopher Rushing and his wife, Jennifer, their children, Scarlett and Blaise, and aunts, Judy Isaac, Barbara Estes, Pat Maevers; and many cousins in the Rushing and Isaac families.
A private family gathering will be held at Moore Bowen Road Funeral Home, 4216 S. Bowen Road in Arlington, Texas 76014, on April 7, 2026, at 10:00 AM followed by a graveside service at Greenwood Memorial Park, 3344 White Settlement Road, Fort Worth, Texas 76107, at 12:00 PM. Pallbearers are Patrick Purcell, Jeremiah Rushing, Steven Purcell, Christopher Rushing, Tim Purcell, and Pat Harvey.
Jay will be remembered for his humor and charisma, his generosity to others, and his love of fishing, the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers.
