The good Lord called Jessie “Estella” Johnson Croom and said “come take my hand and follow me into life eternal” on December 2, 2023, in Arlington, Texas.
Jessie “Estella” Johnson Croom was born in Springtown, Texas, on September 22, 1930. Her parents were the late Roy Edward Johnson, mother Vinnie Matilda Creach Johnson (who passed when she was a child) and then lovingly raised by her stepmother, Marie Floretta Brown Johnson.
Estella graduated from Carter Riverside High School in 1948 and later attended both the TCU/Harris College of Nursing and the Brantley-Draughon Business College. She then met Lewis at a church function and they were married on January 27, 1951, at the First Christian Church in Fort Worth.
She was a homemaker and bookkeeper for the Little Old Shoemaker, their family business in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was a member of Floral Heights United Methodist Church in Wichita Falls and participated in the Couples Class, Keenagers and modeled and fundraised for the United Methodist Women.
She was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of Shelomi Temple-Daughters of the Nile, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Red Hat Society and both the Civic League and Garden Club of Dallas.
Estella, Lewis and her children, Wayne and Donna, lived in Farmers Branch, Texas, for 13 years and then moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, in 1970. Since 2012 she resided in Arlington, Texas.
She loved relaxing at their cabin on Lake Arrowhead, creating multiple works of art under the guidance of the late Steve Grey of Wichita Falls, watching her grandchildren participate in different sporting events and taking them on occasional family vacations across the country. Some of her most memorable times were also spent visiting and traveling with the cherished friends she met along the way.
Estella Croom was preceded in death by her husband Lewis Milton Croom, and son, Lewis Wayne Croom.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Roland; three grandsons, Zack Roland (Carrie), Whit Roland (Regina), and Chance Roland; her great-grandchildren, Alex, Hailee, Faith (Juan), Trisha, Levi, Paxton, Brady, Brooks and one great-great-granddaughter, Lynnette, as well as many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.
