Johnnie Marie Burk Smith was born in Brady, Texas on February 18, 1932 to Lillie Mae Graham Burk & Charley Lee Burk. After spending her childhood in Burnet, Tx, she graduated from Burnet High School & subsequently married Charles Carl Smith. Shortly thereafter, Charles & Johnnie established a family-owned paint store, which did well until it was sold when Charles was drafted by the Army during the Korean War.
Following the war, Johnnie focused the next several years raising her two sons in Austin & Mesquite. She loved her family well, and established a strong Christian-based household. She continually reinforced those values. After the sons graduated from high school & college, and were married, she spent her time working in photography retail.
Her true passions were spending time with her family and cooking. As a result, she and Charles retired and moved to Arlington to be closer to the rest of the family where she could enjoy frequent meals with her grandkids. She will always be remembered for her relentless concern for each family member.
Johnnie was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Charles Carl Smith; brothers Herman Burk, Hubert Burk, & Jim Burk; sisters Mamie (Burk) King, Lois (Burk) Rogers, & Alberta (Burk) Owens; & great-granddaughter June Smith. She is survived by her sons, Ron Smith (Karen) of Boerne & Rick Smith (Barbara) of Arlington... Grandchildren Stephen Smith of Jarrell, Natalie Strawn (Noah) of Midlothian, Brad Smith (Haley) of Tomball, Adam Smith (Quynh) of Arlington, Elaine Ponder (Josh) of Round Rock, Blake Smith (Rossmary) of San Antonio; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson.
