Lawrence E. Perkins
October 20, 1950 – October 27, 2025
Lawrence Edward Perkins transitioned from Earth to eternity on October 27, 2025. Born in Houston, Texas, on October 20, 1950, to Fred and Josie Perkins, Lawrence lived a life anchored in faith, family, and service to others.
For over 50 years, Lawrence served in various positions within the Federal Aviation Administration that began as an Air Traffic Controller and progressed into managerial positions , Air Traffic Business, and subsequently as an aviation consultant. His career reflected calm judgment, precision, and unwavering dedication to public safety. Colleagues across the country leaned on his encyclopedic knowledge of FAA policies and procedures and his steady mentorship. As one young engineer shared, “He knew all the answers. I could not ask for a better person to assist me.” Another teammate joked that he was the first call whenever FAA advice was needed. Even as he planned to retire at the end of 2025—after being asked to stay longer—his guidance, kindness, and willingness to teach continued to shape the careers of those around him.
Lawrence’s faith shaped everything he did. He was an active member of Antioch Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas—a pillar in the Men’s Ministry and a proud voice in the Male Chorus. He was known for showing up whenever someone needed a hand, often with steady counsel and a warm smile.
A proud Prairie View A&M University alumnus (Class of 1972), Lawrence devoted both his time and financial stewardship to his beloved alma mater as a Life Member of the National Alumni Association and a member of the Fort Worth Alumni Chapter. He served as president of the Class of 1972 and spearheaded the 50th-anniversary celebration, which established a class endowment that helped raise more than $100,000 to support future Panthers. True to his humility, he stepped back from the public spotlight so classmates could receive on-field recognition. “Few in words, great in deeds”—the tribute fits him perfectly. He was a beacon of encouragement, a steady cheerleader on the days it mattered most, and his work with the PV Golden Class is now a permanent part of the university’s story.
For 29½ years, Lawrence walked through life with his beloved wife, Dr. Sharon Johnson-Perkins—his partner and best friend. He treasured his role as a loving protector and provider—steady, prayerful, and present. To him, provision meant more than work; it meant creating safety, sharing wisdom, and covering his family in prayer.
At home, Lawrence was the heartbeat of family gatherings—an exceptional cook whose peach cobbler became a signature at every celebration. He will be remembered for his generosity, wisdom, and the quiet strength with which he loved his family.
Lawrence is survived by his wife, Dr. Sharon Johnson-Perkins; his children, Maurice Perkins (Arlicia), Angela Dancy, and Anthony Perkins (Tanisa); grandchildren, Ronald, Eric, DaLisa, Kamryn, and Chase; and great-grandchildren, Ka’Vion, Raheem, Ameenah, Kassiel, and Syncere. He was predeceased by his great-grandson, Emerald. He is also survived by his siblings, Florine Perkins (Houston, TX), Ethel Beasley (Fort Worth, TX), and Debra Marks (Houston, TX), and was predeceased by his siblings, Robert Perkins and Joyce Perkins. He leaves a host of nieces and nephews, in-laws, extended family, and many friends and coworkers who will miss him dearly.
