Born in White Plains, New York to Lowell S. Orth and Helen McIntire Orth, Stan Orth was raised and educated in Dallas, Texas. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High, North Texas University (B.A. History, 1951) and Dallas Theological Seminary, ThM, 1956 and ThD, 1962. He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Judd, on August 24, 1951 with whom he enjoyed 72 years of beautiful marriage with four children.
Stan was a faithful servant of Christ who dedicated his life as a missionary and Bible teacher in Guatemala for almost fifty years. At the Central American Theological Seminary in Guatemala City, he served as a teacher of New Testament courses and spiritual life, as well as handling leadership roles as academic dean and vice-rector. Stan was loved and admired by his students not only for his excellence in teaching, but also for his generous, humble character and kindness to all. He was a proficient writer and authored five practical Bible commentaries for use in local churches as well as contributing some twenty articles to a Spanish bible dictionary. In addition to his ministry at the Central American Theological Seminary, Stan played a vital role in the planting of two churches in Guatemala City, serving as elder-pastor.
Stan was a dedicated father and loving husband. He enjoyed hiking, biking, canoeing, snorkeling, and other outdoor adventures with his family in Guatemala. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (July 8, 2023); is survived by his four children, David Allen Orth (Sarah), Duane Alden Orth (Jackie), Dale Edwin Orth (Jill) and Jennifer Lynn Orth Adams (Jim); as well as six grandchildren, Michelle Dulock, Daniel Orth, Hayley Mroz, Caroline Orth, Caleb Adams and Nathan Adams; and ten great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 18, 3:00 pm at Park Springs Bible Church (5515 Park Springs Blvd., Arlington, TX 76017) to honor the lives of both Stan and Barbara and celebrate their life together.
