

Marquis Eugene Smith, 42 of Pearl City passed away on May 6, 2021 in Honolulu, Hawaii while serving on active duty. He was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on Oct 2, 1978 to Wanda and Michael Smith. He grew up in Arlington, Texas. Marquis was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church. Marquis attended Duff Elementary, Miller Elementary, Young Middle School and graduated from Martin High School in Arlington, Texas in 1996.
Marquis enlisted in the United States Army in 1996 as a Private E1. He would continually advance in the enlisted ranks to grade of Sergeant E5. He then applied for Warrant Officer Candidate School and was accepted. He was promoted to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 1 upon graduating from Warrant Officer Candidate School. Over the next few years, he would advance from Warrant Officer 1 to Warrant Officer 2 and then to Warrant Officer 3. His rank at the time of his death was Chief Warrant Officer 3. He was boarded for the rank Chief Warrant Officer 4 prior to his death. The promotion board approved his promotion. He will be promoted to Chief Warrant Officer 4 posthumous. Marquis was serving as the G6 Chief of Defensive Cyber Operations at Fort Shafter, Hawaii. He supervised and managed Information Systems. His technical knowledge and skills supported a Headquarters Command where he advised commanders and staff on planning, managing and maintaining secure information systems. Marquis has received numerous awards, honors and achievements throughout his extensive honorable military career. Marquis loved the U.S. Army. He was a great leader, mentor, trainer and always looking to further his knowledge as the G6 Chief of Defensive Cyber Operations. He exceeded at all tasks assigned him. Marquis loved his kids Serenity and Marquis JR.
Marquis is survived by his 2 children Serenity Anala-Marie Smith of Jeffersonville PA and Marquis Elijah Smith of Ft Knox, KY, brothers and sisters: Michael Eugene Smith Jr. of Middletown, PA., Aigne Rose Howard of Harrisburg PA, Matthew E. Smith of Dallas, TX. Parents: Mother: Wanda Howard of Harrisburg, PA. Step- Mother, Angelia Smith and Father, Michael E. Smith of Arlington, TX. Marquis is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
A funeral for Marquis will be at 12:30pm on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Moore Bowen Road Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
