She peacefully separated from this life on Saturday, June 29, 2024 in Grand Prairie, Texas.
Nell graduated from McDonogh #35 High School in New Orleans and after graduation attended Stratton Business College where she studied Business Administration before entering the banking industry in which she worked for over 35 years. She met the love of her life, Albert Henry Cordova and they wed in 1961. Their union lasted 42 years, until Albert’s death in 2003. To this union was born two children, Arnel Maria and Arnette Marie. Later in her career, Nell became a Campaign Manager for United Way Greater New Orleans and remained a dedicated employee of the organization until her retirement in 2005.
Nell relocated to Arlington, TX post Hurricane Katrina in 2005. She was a faithful member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas where she served on the Hospitality Committee for many years. Nell found immense joy in travel, baking, sewing, being a grandmother and spending quality time with family and friends. By the grace of God Nell received a kidney transplant at the age of 75.
Nell was preceded in death by her parents Clarence Johnson and Louise P. Johnson and sister Jernice Johnson Valentine.
She is survived by her two children Arnel M. Vick and Arnette M. Cordova; siblings Alicia Johnson, Leslie (Dianne) Johnson, Claire Johnson, Andrea George, and Avis Moore, grandchildren Morgan (Kevin) Davis, Mahalia (Justin) Vick, great grandchildren Kinsley Davis, Mallory McAllister and Maddox McAllister; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and long-time friends.
Visitation: 10:00am, Tuesday, July 9th, 2024, at CORNERSTONE BAPTIST CHURCH, 5415 Matlock Rd | Arlington,Texas 76018. Service to follow at 11:00 am. Interment: 2:00 pm, July 11th, 2024 at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 4000 Norman Mayer Avenue, New Orleans, Louisiana 70122.
