Phil Norris, 77, of Dallas, Texas, peacefully passed away on August 2, 2023, in Arlington, Texas. Born on June 10, 1946, in Dallas, Phil, also known as Phillip Wayne Norris, was a calm, kind, and optimistic individual with a gift for leadership, logic, and discernment. He had a remarkable life filled with love, accomplishments, and cherished relationships.
Phil proudly served in the US Army for three years where he attained the rank of LT 1st. His military associations were a significant part of his life and shaped his character.
After his military service, Phil excelled in accounting and finance, becoming an expert in Hospital Finance. He worked for various organizations and hospitals in Dallas and Houston before venturing out to start his own business. Phil's dedication and expertise in his field earned him respect and recognition throughout his career. He retired in 2018, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and accomplishment.
Outside of his professional life, Phil had a passion for sports and enjoyed various activities throughout his life. He played handball and tennis, and for a decade, he was a pitcher for a soft ball team during college and the years that followed. Later, he discovered his love for golf, playing frequently for many years. Phil's absolute favorite spectator sport was professional baseball, and he was a devoted season ticket owner for both the Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros when he moved to Houston. The Texas Rangers held a special place in his heart.
In his leisure time, Phil enjoyed working on puzzles and word games, always challenging his mind and staying sharp. He found joy in these activities and appreciated the mental stimulation they provided.
Phil's memory will be forever cherished by his beloved wife of 51-plus years, Lucy Norris, his son Phillip R. Norris (Ricky), his daughter Karla K. Norris, his granddaughter Carmen Norris, his grandson Phillip J. Norris (Jacob), his sister Roseann Burrell, his cousin Linda Eakle, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Phillip R. Norris, his mother, Ora Kathryn Norris, and his brother, Bobbie R. Norris.
A Celebration of Life and Sunset Tribute will take place in late September to honor Phil's remarkable journey.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to organizations close to Phil's heart: Habitat for Humanity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and the Gary Sinise Foundation. Contributions made in his memory will continue to make a positive impact in the lives of others.
Phil Norris will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His legacy of kindness, optimism, and expertise will forever be cherished by those whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace.
