Robert William Giacomi Jr was born in Novato, California on August 3,1963 to Robert Giacomi Sr and Margaret Giacomi. He passed away at age 60, on April 15,2024 in Mansfield, Texas. Rob resided in Arlington,TX with his wife of 37 years, Jana Adams Giacomi and his beloved Daughter, Caitlyn Reese and her husband Dennis Reese along with his two Grandsons who he adored, Charlie and Austen Reese and his much loved Son, Steven-Tyler. The Reeses and the Giacomis moved from California in May of 2017 to Arlington, TX. Rob received a job offer from Lockheed Martin, Grand Prairie which he was very excited to accept. Rob’s middle daughter Jessica is married to Morgan Mecchi and they live with their daughter Adalyn Mecchi in Lincoln. He has two sisters Deborah Worthan who resides in Clearlake, California and Leanne Thacker resides in Mission, Kansas.
Rob lived in many northern California towns through the years. His family moved to Cupertino in his teenage years and he graduated from Cupertino High School in 1981. He was known to be wearing a cowboy hat and sometimes his cowboy boots while attending classes and was involved with sporting events. He especially was involved in anything related to baseball. He made lifelong friends while in High School, Joni Boles, John Jernigan and many others. He was very active on the Cupertino class of 81 facebook page.
Rob joined the Air Force right out of High School and was Honorably Discharged due to an injury he received in High School playing football. This was one of his greatest regrets that he wasn’t able to be in the military for longer than he accomplished. He always held that honor in high regard.
Shortly after discharge he started college courses at De Anza Junior College studying business while working at a variety of jobs until he got his first job in the defense industry. This is where he got his start in positions that lead him into the Property Management field. He worked at companies such as ESL, Variant, Space Systems Loral, Stanford University and for the past 20 years been employed at Lockheed Martin. First in California at the Sunnyvale plant and over the past 6 plus years at the Grand Prairie plant where he celebrated his 20th anniversary in December of 2023. He was dedicated to his career.
He pursued further education so he could be the best he could be at his job. He was a member of the National Property Management Association since 1984. He held numerous offices in the local chapter as well as positions in the national association attending many NES Conferences. He was considered an expert in his field and acted as a certified proctor for the NPMS Certification testing. He also was a member of the Lockheed Martin Leadership Association in California where he served in many positions along with being the Director of Social Events. He coordinated everything from Napa Valley Wine trips, A day at Sonoma Raceway for the NASCAR Cup race, a Disney Frozen on Ice Show with a pre-show for the families complete with Olaf and Anna doing photo Opps and lots of family friendly activities and many more events.
On January 3, 1987, Rob met his wife to be at DB Coopers in Downtown San Jose. Her sister had gotten married that day and the wedding party continued their celebration at this downtown hot spot. Jana was busy with the wedding party so the two spoke off and on for short times as she passed where he was. He finally asked Jana if she wanted to go to see Bon Jovi. She said, “sure, call me” and phone numbers were exchanged. Rob called Jana the next day and they were on the phone for 3 hours. The next weekend they started dating, Bon Jovi wasn’t until January 24, 1987 so that had to wait a little.
In March 1987 Rob moved in with Jana in her townhouse in Campbell. Rob proposed to Jana in April, 1987 and moved into a larger Townhouse in Campbell. The two were married on September 19, 1987 at Portola Valley Presbyterian where the week before the wedding there was a fire in the organ pit that spread to some of the redwoods behind the church. Of course this caused a panic but ended up as a blessed event. The Pope was in town and was going to do a Mass at Candlestick Stadium in San Francisco and he blessed the organ before services. Candlestick was kind enough to loan the organ to the church and Rob and Jana were the first to use the blessed organ. He and his new wife then went into Palo Alto where they had a great celebration of their marriage.
Rob is a San Francisco Giants Fan from the day he was born. He took his family to many of the games at Candlestick Park and later at Pac Bell Park when the new stadium opened. Every game was an adventure! Even after moving toT exas, Rob would be decked out in his Giants Gear from head to toe, shirt, hat, coat and anything else he could find to wear to rangers Games no matter who they were playing. Even when we went out on our weekend adventures, shopping, you name it. He proudly wore his Giants gear and if not that, he’d have on the S.J. Sharks, Warriors, SF 49ers or even the SJ Earthquakes.
Rob's hobbies or passions were collecting Stitch collectibles. His home office is wall to wall Stitch with more on the dining room table that haven’t found a home yet. Watching The Voice, American Idol, Masked Singer and of course his WWE Wrestling, although he didn’t go crazy watching all the time since he knew his wife wasn’t really into it. Taking care of those he loved to the end. He also watched NASCAR most every weekend, something he and his wife shared together. His secret obsession was watching in the Kitchen With David on QVC on Sunday mornings. He'd say to Jana, “ do you want to watch QVC” and her answer was always, “I don’t care”. Because she really didn’t care if she watched it but would say “sure” to make him happy.
Rob was a dedicated employee and member of his associations. In August of 1987, Jana’s company planned a trip to Europe for 2 weeks and significant others were invited to travel with the group. Rob declined because the local NPMA chapter was hosting the next national NES conference in October which he had to take time off work to attend and support. He didn't want to take time off from work in August and again in October. Dedication. He was like that his entire career. He’d plan 2 or 3 day weekend trips or plan a vacation around his business and conference travels. He accrued a lot of vacation time.
Finally in 2017 Rob took 3 ½ weeks off to take part of the family to Disney World and still had time on the books. His middle child Jessica, was accepted in the Disney College Intern Program which he was very proud of. The vacation was planned to include her last few weeks and allow a few days once she completed her program so they could go to Universal Studios. Rob was like a little kid once he arrived at Disney World, he loved it all! Especially anything related to Lilo & Stitch. He traded pins, chased all over the parks trying to find one particular Stitch shirt and we did the Ohana Breakfast three times. Just a little into Stitch! It was a dream trip for him.
Then he went until August 2021 and took another three week vacation where he took Steven-Tyler and his wife Jana on an incredible road trip to California. They were able to make stops in Las Vegas, see one of Rob’s favorite bands, Y & T, then spent a few days with his mother. After that he headed south to the Santa Cruz Mountains and spent some days visiting their favorite haunts and seeing all their friends including a show from James Durbin and the Lost Boys! From there they headed to Yosemite, where he and his family had never been able to explore. Luckily, their great friends who they had stayed with, Paul and Melissa decided to join them on the trip. It was spectacular, Paul was their own personal tour guide. He had been to Yosemite many times and knew what we should try to see. Then we pit stopped in Phoenix to see the child of our hearts that we knew from when she was in high school and lived with us for a time. Rob finished off the trip taking ST to see the aliens in Roswell, NM and for his wife to visit the family plots at the cemetery. Main Street was quite the adventure with all the UFO stuff to see. Then we headed home but then started the covid cycle.
Rob was very grateful for this last vacation. He was able to see most of his friends, loved ones and most especially his mother. In October his battles started. First with Covid which lasted over a year. Then with only a few months back at work the symptom started that turned out to be Thymus cancer. He battled it all valiantly and in the end was more worried about his wife and kids than himself.
He was a true warrior and protector to the end.
He is already greatly missed.
