

He was born on May 20,1955 to Walter and Genevieve Hancock in San Diego, CA. After graduating from North Forsyth High School in Winston-Salem, NC in 1974, Roger served 8 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, spending time in New River Air Station, NC, Dallas, TX, and Yuma, AZ. He joined the Naval Reserve after leaving the Marine Corps as a Staff Sgt.
Roger studied Welding Technology at Mountain View Community College, obtaining an associate's degree. He received his bachelor's degree in business from The University of North Texas in Denton, and his MBA from The University of Dallas.
Roger volunteered in the Grand Prairie Youth Football Association for 18 years. He served first as a coach, then on the board as President and Treasurer. He was integral in the development of Parkhill Park for the GPYFA.
He joined Vought Aircraft Industries in Dallas, TX in 1984, retiring as a Contracts Manager after 28 years. Before and after retiring Roger spent much of his time refurbishing several classic Mustangs and loved playing the slots at Winstar.
Roger married the love of his life, Jan, in 1975. They were happily married for 49 years.
Preceded in death by his parents, Roger is survived by his wife, Jan; daughter, Brooke (Landry) Saucedo of Austin, TX; son, Dustin (Abbie) Hancock of Ft Worth, TX; granddaughter, Heather Hancock of Dallas, TX; brother, Lee (Marti) Hancock of Anniston, AL, and many more loving relatives, aunts, and uncles.
Services will be held at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall, NC on Saturday, January 11th at 2:00. Visitation will be from 1pm-2pm.
