

He was born in Birmingham, AL in 1929 and is preceded in death by his parents, James and Odeser Pace Harris, his sister Edna Dawson and his beautiful granddaughter Rachel. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Geraldine Harris, his children; Donna, Vular Jr. (Carin), Karen, and Cheryl (Irvan). He was the proud, devoted, cheerful and loving grandfather of; Jamaal, Tamisha, Brian, Dezrick, Gerald and great grandson Dezrick Lyle. Mr. Harris was a decorated veteran, he proudly served over 21 years in the United States Army; he was a member of the 82nd Airborne, and served a tour of duty in Vietnam. Mr. Harris and his wife Geraldine were stationed in many interesting places both abroad and in the United States. After retiring from the Army, Mr. Harris worked for many years as the head of security before retiring from the YISD in El Paso, TX. Mr. Harris enjoyed cooking, traveling, fishing and watching the Dallas Cowboys. He loved being the head chef and preparing gourmet meals for his family and friends. Mr. Harris was well-known for making his own wines and brandy. He was an avid grill master; family and friends in several countries have enjoyed his barbecue. Mr. Harris also enjoyed sharing stories of his military service with his family and friends. The Harris’ were longtime members of McCombs Baptist Church before retiring to Fort Worth, where they became members of Chapel by the Lake led by Pastor Scott Kelly. The joyful community of Villas by The Lake warmly embraced Vular and Geraldine.
