August 23, 1930 – December 19, 2025
Yoshiko S. McLeland, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and woman of faith, passed away peacefully in her home in Arlington, Texas on December 19, 2025, at the age of 95.
Yoshiko was born on August 23, 1930, in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan, where she grew up during World War II. Those early years shaped her resilience, strength, and enduring sense of perseverance that carried her throughout her life. In 1959, she married Raymond William McLeland at the American Embassy in Tokyo, Japan. Following their marriage, she immigrated to the United States, became a naturalized citizen in 1961, and built a life rooted in family and faith.
After residing in El Paso, Texas, and spending several years in Okinawa, Yoshiko ultimately settled in Arlington, Texas, where she raised her son, John, and remained for the remainder of her life. She lived independently for many years and was known for her strong will, steadfast values, and unmistakable presence.
Yoshiko possessed a sharp sense of humor and a lively spirit. Though direct and outspoken, her remarks were often followed by a smile that reflected her warmth and good intentions. She believed in bringing light and laughter into difficult moments and cared deeply for those around her.
Yoshiko’s faith was a steady presence throughout her life. She believed in Jesus and found strength in prayer, carrying a deep devotion to her family and honoring the memory of her husband through a personal annual time of remembrance. She also made a point of visiting the resting places of both her husband and son.
Family was at the center of Yoshiko’s life, and she will be remembered for her generosity and care for others. She enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley, playing solitaire, shopping, and watching television. She was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan and took great pleasure in sharing traditional Japanese meals with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond William McLeland, and her son, John William McLeland.
Yoshiko is survived by her three grandsons, Thomas William McLeland, Bryan McLeland, and Eric McLeland, and by her beloved great-grandchildren, Aeris McLeland and River McLeland. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Janie McLeland, whose care and devotion meant so much to her, as well as Austin Hingst, Audrey Hingst, Tony Pesina, and Andy Pesina.
