So sorry to hear of Al’s passing.

I fondly remember being appointed by Al to the Arlington Citizens’ Advisory Commission on Housing back in the 90’s, and know how passionate he was on that topic and so many others that have made Arlington what it is today. I wish that our tenure on the County Board would have overlapped, as I think we would have had a far amount of interests in common.

I served with Al on the Arlington County Board.  He was a friend, a mentor and a catalyst for good.  Fortunately, Al had a keen intellect and the ability to persuade the harshest critics that a more fair and just society was in everyone’s best interest.  Watching him make the system work to achieve these goals made an indelible impression on me.  I am so glad that our paths crossed and I had the opportunity to learn from Al Eisenberg .  He will always be a guiding light.

We lost a great man and true pillar to the Arlington County Community.  His sons are a great representation of the man and father he was.

Sincere condolences to Sharon and the Eisenberg family. I have known Al since I began work on the Senate Housing Subcommittee in 1975. We worked closely together on Capitol Hill to support public housing, affordable housing, community development and mass transit. Al's passionate commitment to serve those in greatest need was always evident and his detailed knowledge and inquiring mind always contributed to more thoughtful and better results and legislation. Al brought me into Arlington Democratic political work while I lived in Washington DC and influenced my move to Arlington. I will always remember that if he asked me to do phone banking, he would tell me that he would pick me up at home and drop me off when he left (insuring that I would put in a long day or evening's work). I served as Al's treasurer for his County Board campaign when we had a handwritten ledger book and had to type financial reports (back in olden days). He lived a very consequential life, always striving to improve the well-being of those in need. His legacy in Arlington and at the General Assembly is one of great achievements and creativity. His voice and thought have been greatly missed in recent years. May he always be remembered as an outstanding servant leader who believed fervently in his mission and always kept his eyes on the prize--a better and more equitable life for Virginians in greatest need.  The best way to remember Al's life and work is to continue to become a fairer and more equitable Commonwealth and promote democracy, liberty and justice for all.
