Alethea Bond Kolhonen

Alethea Bond Kolhonen (Nee Nordquist), age 92 passed on July 22, 2016. She is survived by her son; Randall Brent Kolhonen (Kim), daughter; Kirsi Alethea Claire Murrell (Derek). Her grandchildren; Andrew Brent Kolhonen, and Valerie Jeanette Kolhonen, Great grandchildren; Nicholas J. Smith, Alexander Brent Kolhonen and Josiah Thinh Kolhonen, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alethea was born June 30, 1924 in Odessa, NY. She was married to Jukka A. Kolhonen.

Alethea spent her life helping others as a nurse and earned her B.S. at Syracuse University. Her Master’s Degree was earned at Catholic University in Fairfax County. Alethea retired as a school nurse supervisor of Arlington County Schools and was responsible for 14 schools.

Always ready for an adventure, Alethea traveled extensively in Europe, Scandinavia as well as China. She was well liked and respected, she loved to cook and entertain friends and family at home. One of her favorite activities was swimming regardless of weather. She enjoyed her last swim a month ago with her son. Alethea was an active church member at Evangelical Free Church in Annandale, Virgina.

Graveside services will be held 10:00 am Tuesday July 26, 2016 at Columbia Gardens Cemetery, 3411 Arlington Blvd. Arlington, VA.
