Barbara Hanford O'Brien

Barbara Hanford O'Brien, age 96, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2016 at St. Joseph's Ministries in Emmitsburg, MD, with her daughter by her side. She is survived by her daughter Barbara Cromartie, son-in-law David Cromartie; grandchildren Kristin Walega, John Cromartie, his wife Courtney, and Daniel Cromartie; great granddaughter Grace, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband James R. O'Brien, son James S. O'Brien, daughter Carole O'Brien Walega and grandson Theodore R. Walega.

Barbara was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She met her husband at The George Washington University and was active in the Kappa Delta sorority and the United Methodist Church throughout her life. She loved to travel and logged many miles visiting many countries in Europe and Southeast Asia. A special thank you goes out to the people who provided loving care for her during her illness.

Services will be on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 10:30am at the Murphy Arlington Funeral Home at 4510 Wilson Boulevard, with interment to follow at Columbia Gardens. A donation in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).
