Amos was born in Cleveland, OH on June 21st, 1951. His early years served as a template for the rest of his life; working hard and living life to the fullest. As a teen, he developed a life-long love for the game of pool, becoming what some would consider a shark in the Lakewood area where he grew up. In the 1970s, Amos moved to Arlington, VA to work for his father, Charles Haines Bussmann, at Compass Publications, a leader in periodicals for the global ocean and commercial fishing industries, including Sea Technology magazine, the ocean/marine industry’s consistently recognized authority for ocean design, engineering and application of equipment and services in the global ocean community. During his tenure at Compass, Amos was a leader in sales, traveling the world as an ambassador of the ocean industry as a whole, including leading a trade delegation to China in 1981. His strong work-ethic lead him to become President and Publisher of Compass Publications, a position he held until his passing.
In his personal life, Amos was a reserved man. He was not quick to let people in; but when you were in, you were in for life. One could not ask for a more dedicated friend. He loved rock and roll, especially the Rolling Stones and AC/DC. His love of pool carried through his life, and those who knew him closest will never forget the specific inflection in his voice when he would sink the eight-ball and call out “Rack ‘em”.
Amos is survived by his sons Charles Mason Bussmann, Zachary Amos Bussmann, sister Debra Ann Obrock, grandson Jaxon Shane Bussmann, and step-mother Judith Turner Bussmann. He is preceded by his father Charles Haines Bussmann, mother Jane Bussmann nee Leary, and son Shane Alexander Bussmann.
Amos will be buried at a private ceremony at Columbia Gardens Cemetery in Arlington, VA.
