Edgar Donald Coffman

Edgar Donald Coffman, son of the late Ruby West Coffman and Edgar Scott Coffman, died on June 27, 2013 at his home in McLean, Virginia. He was born in 1931 in Indianapolis, Indiana but lived most of his life in Arlington, Virginia. Edgar was a graduate of Washington-Lee High School. He earned a BA degree from Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College) and a juris doctor degree from George Washington University Law School. From 1954-1956 he served as an officer in the United States Army. While still in law school he began his career as an agent with Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company which continued until his death. Edgar was a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table. Edgar was a life member of the Virginia State Bar. An avid golfer, he was a member of Washington Golf and Country Club in Arlington and was President from 1979-1980, Farmington Country Club in Charlottesville, and Ford’s Colony Country Club in Williamsburg where he had a second home. He is survived by Joan, his wife of 59 years and a sister, Harriet Anne Phillips, of Fort Worth, Texas. Visitation will take place on Thursday, July 11, 2013, from 4-7 p.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home 4510 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, Virginia. A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2013 at Redeemer Lutheran Church 1545 Chain Bridge Road, McLean, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The First Tee of Washington D.C. 2020 Pennsylvania Ave. NW # 106 Washington DC 20006 in Edgar’s name.
