Of Arlington, VA passed away on his 97th birthday. He is predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Margaret Frances Venzke. He is survived by his children, Margaret Leigh Venzke, William (Jane) Venzke, Mary Byrne, and Keith (Maggie) Venzke; his four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and by his sister, Mary Boenning. Leigh, as he was known, served in the US Army for 30 years. Awarded 15 decorations, he served in World War II and the Korean War, and worked in the Army Transportation Corps. After retiring from the military, Leigh enjoyed a second career with the American Red Cross. A Mason, Leigh loved to travel, gardening and his family. He will be missed. A visitation will be held at Murphy Funeral Home of Arlington, 4510 Wilson Blvd, from 4-7pm on Friday, May 5, 2017. Funeral Services will be held at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 6201 Washington, Blvd, Arlington, VA 22205 at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 6, 2017. Interment will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date, to be announced. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Red Cross or Shriners Hospital for Children.
