Age: 90
Frank was born on July 6, 1923 in Trenton, New Jersey, to Anna Hogan and Edward Peartree. Frank was raised in Rochester, New York and Trenton, New Jersey. He attended high school at the The Pennington School, located outside of Trenton. He joined the Army upon graduation. The Army sent him to Ripon College, in Wisconson and eventually off to India to serve in WWII. Upon returning he entered William Jewel College in Liberty, Missouri. While in college he met his wife of 58 years, Jennie Ponulak. They were married in 1949 and moved to Washington, D.C., where Frank received his law degree at George Washington University. Frank served as Secretary to the U.S. Court of Claims from 1952 until 1961, and then as Clerk of the Court until his retirement in 1991. This court was later renamed the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. In the post employment years, Frank enjoyed many years as a docent with the Hands on History exhibit at the Smithsonian Museum of American History. He and Jennie also took several trips, including France, Nova Scotia, Italy and various Elderhostels.
Jennie Peartree preceded him in death in 2007. He is survived by his son, Patrick Peartree, of Springfield, VA and his daughter Louisa Peartree, her wife Elizabeth Randolph and his two grandchildren, Lyla and Finn, of Baltimore, MD.
Frank is remembered as an avid sports fan, especially of baseball and college basketball. He loved opera, stamp collecting, musicals, all dogs and martinis made to his specifications. He was a loving and loyal husband, father and grandfather. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Frank's name to the SPCA of Northern Va, PO Box 100220, Arlington, VA 22210-3220.
A funeral mass will be held at Saint Thomas More Cathedral on July 11, 2014 at 10:00 am. There will be a reception following at the church. Please join us to remember Frank together. The burial is still being arranged with Arlington National Cemetery.
