Gladis Contreras Gonzalez, 95, of Arlington, Virginia, passed away on July 11, 2025.
A native of El Salvador, Gladis was a woman whose spirit reflected the strength, resilience and warmth of her roots – and the deep sense of responsibility she felt to open doors and create opportunities for her family to realize the American dream. And guided by an unshakeable faith, she met each season of life with a commitment to honor everyday treasures – the embrace of her adoring family, gatherings that filled rooms with laughter and the enduring comfort of friendship.
Preceded in death by her beloved parents, Francisca Contreras and Roque Gonzalez, and her siblings, Mauricio and Carmen, Gladis now rests in eternal peace. She is survived by her sister, Leticia Contreras-Hernandez; children, Carlos (Nilda), Anna Margarita (Roy) and Gladis Eugenia (Nabil); grandchildren, Mikey (Claudia), Mario, Marco (Haley), Alexandra, Kamila, Zoé, Elias and Andrés; great-grandchildren, Mavi and Barrett; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will occur on Thursday, July 24, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at Murphy Funeral Home at 4510 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, VA 22203. An interment and committal service will follow at 12:30 PM at Oakwood Cemetery, 401 N Roosevelt St, Falls Church, VA 22044.
Following the interment, family and friends are invited to a Mercy Meal and Celebration of Life at the Bourdouane home, located at 5937 Kimble Ct., Falls Church, VA. We’ll gather to share food, memories, and the warmth of community in honor of Gladis’s life and legacy.
