Irene Husson

The handmaid of God Irene Louise (formerly Sawyer) Husson reposed in the Lord on Tuesday, August 31, 2021. She is survived by her husband Raymond J. Husson, Arlington, VA; her half-sister Judith Conley, Drennen, WV; and her half-brother Steve Clonch, Charleston, WV. Irene was born in Montgomery, WV on July, 15, 1931 to Thomas and Ruth (formerly Burford) Sawyer, who predeceased her. Her father, originally from Hematite, VA, met Ruth Burford while she was living in Mt. Carbon, WV. After they married, they moved to Montgomery. The Sawyer family plot is located in the Palestine Presbyterian Church property located at Hematite. Irene graduated Montgomery High School and attended the West Virginia University Institute of Technology. Upon the death of her father, Irene was employed at the age of 16 by the Laird Memorial Hospital, Montgomery, as a switchboard operator. She subsequently worked for the United States Post Office Department and -- after marrying Raymond in 1974 and relocating to Washington, D.C. – she was a lending officer at the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration, United States Department of Justice. After retiring from the Department of Justice, Irene enjoyed travelling and attending the opera, the symphony, and the theater. She was a member of the Arlington Hospital Mall Walking Group. For the past 30 years, she and Raymond have been parishioners of Holy Transfiguration Melkite Greek Catholic Church, 8501 Lewinsville Road, McLean, VA. A funeral service will be held at the church at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday September 9, with visitation and prayers beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Fairfax Memorial Park, 9900 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA.
