
He attended Clarkston HS, Clarkson, WA, graduated from Dayton HS, Dayton, WA and attended Eastern Washington State College.
He joined the US Army in 1958, serving 20 years in personnel management positions in CA, TX, AS, OK, VA, WA, Germany, Vietnam and Turkey. Many were with Army Security Agency, now U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM). His last assignment was as First Sergeant of HQ and HQ Co, Ft Myer, VA. His medals include the Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star and Army Commendation Medal.
Following Army retirement, he served 16 years at INSCOM as Chief, Awards and Orders Branch, Arlington Hall Station VA and Fort Belvoir, VA.
Predeceased by his wife of 22 years, Betty Salmon Mason and sister, JoAnn Vail.
Survivors include daughter, Deborah Anne Mason Romano (Steven) of Arlington, VA; grandchildren, Stephanie Romano and Elizabeth Romano; sisters, Jeannine Springer, Kooskia, ID; Jeanette Beloit (Howard), Moscow, ID and many nieces and nephews.
He was a devoted, kind, caring and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, friend, and most of all, a family man who will be greatly missed by all.
A graveside service with full military honors will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6 - 8 pm, 1 Nov, Murphy Funeral Home, Arlington, VA; funeral service, 2 Nov, Ft Myer Memorial Chapel, 2 pm, Ft Myer, VA.Arrangements under the direction of Murphy Funeral Homes, Arlington, VA.
