Joan Muldoon Nuthmann

Loving mother of Julieanne Smith (Kevin), Eugenia Hill (Charles) and Erica Hornsby (Glenn Hornsby, predeceased) passed away peacefully on September 20, 2022. A loving and supportive sister of Peter Muldoon. She was predeceased by her former husband, Richard Nuthmann and her parents, Eugene and Mary Muldoon.

Joan was a treasured grandmother of Colman, Clare and Katherine Smith, Halsey, Blake and Henry Hill, and Jasmin Goble. She was very proud of her daughters and grandchildren. She had a big personality and believed in living life to the fullest. She loved to impart her wisdom about relationships, real estate, finance, career advice, home décor and fashion. She often called with a new tip or idea and say ‘add it to your list’. It was the never ending life to-do list. She shared a love of movie musicals and could talk on the phone for hours. Joan taught her family to be confident, passionate, and independent and to advocate for themselves. She felt a sense of duty to volunteer and give back to the community. She believed in the power of mental health services and the prevention of homelessness. She had a great sense of humor and a bit of a jokester, sometimes dramatic, but always glamorous and color coordinated.

Joan was born in Brooklyn, NY, grew up in New Britain, CT and graduated from New Britain High School. Joan worked in the health care industry for over 30 years.

Joan and Richard settled in Pasadena, CA with their 3 daughters. Joan was an active parent at Mayfield Junior School and Westridge School for Girls. She was active in the Catholic Charities, the Junior Tennis League of Southern California, The Christ Child Society of Pasadena, and The National Charity League of Los Angeles. Joan worked as a Private Nurse until she retired to Delray Beach, FL which became a favorite vacation spot for her family.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY.
