March 14, 1942 – July 5, 2025
Kathleen E. Miller—mother, grandmother, teacher, widow, and friend—passed away in July 2025 at the age of 83. A woman of wisdom and quiet strength, Kathleen spent her life nurturing others—through her work, her passions, and her presence.
Born in 1942 in Buffalo, New York, Kathleen grew up with a deep love for learning and community—values that shaped her lifelong commitment to the Equal Rights Amendment and women's rights. She met her beloved husband, Eugene, at the University of Colorado, and began her career as a middle school history teacher, inspiring young minds with her patience and curiosity. While Eugene worked for the FDIC, they lived in Richmond, VA, Philadelphia, PA and finally Arlington, VA where they met friends and explored the neighbors of these cities.
Later, she found joy in sharing her love of literature as a bookseller—always ready with a thoughtful recommendation and a kind word. At home, she was an adventurous home chef, experimenting with recipes from Gourmet magazine and The New York Times food section. She cherished evenings playing bridge with her friends from Richmond and Arlington.
Kathleen found beauty in simple pleasures. She was a gifted knitter, a gardener, and a voracious reader whose shelves—and soul—were always full. She loved tackling The New York Times crossword in pen and was an unbeatable force in games of Trivial Pursuit.
She was the proud mother of Gina Miller, Dana Miller, and Derek Miller, and a grandmother to Leo Sank, Kay Sank, Sam Miller, Ben Miller, and Grace Miller. Her legacy lives on in each of them—in their kindness, resilience, and commitment to the values she held dear.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) or Planned Parenthood—causes that Kathleen supported because of her understanding of how fortunate we all are.
Her memory will forever bloom in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
