On Wednesday, March 23, 2011, Mae Bumford Woodal, born in Wilmore, PA, long-time resident of Arlington, VA. Beloved wife of 60 years of the late Walter W. Woodal; loving mother of Penny Woodal Thorne and her husband, Brent, of Edgewater, MD and Vicki Jane Woodal of Arlington, VA; devoted grandmother of Amy Thorne Richardson and her husband, Kevin, of Davidsonville, MD and Brandon Herrell Thorne and his wife, Allison, of Ashburn , VA; cherished sister of Betty Etzell of Arlington, VA, Ruth Tummino of Mechanicsville, VA, Tom Bumford of Kississimme, FL and Catherine Bjork of Des Moines, WA. She is also survived by her Great-grandchildren, Kyle, Luke and Beau Richardson and Brogan and Cole Thorne. Mae was a resident of Arlington, Virginia for over 65 years. She Graduated Penn State University in State College, PA in 1935 with a degree in Home Economics. She volunteered her time with the Girl Scouts Council of the Nations Capital and was a Leader for many years. Mae also was a precinct registrar for Arlington County and worked elections for over 40 years at the Yorktown High School location. For many years Mae used her sewing talents and worked for Ingeborg’s Boutique in Alexandria, Virginia that specialized in making custom clothes for many of Washington’s elite. Upon retirement Mae spent her time making crafts for family and friends. Mae’s home welcomed family, friends and neighbors for 60 years. Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at Arlington Funeral Home, 3901 N. Fairfax Dr., Arlington, VA 22203 where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2011. Interment will take place at Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg, PA at 2 p.m. following the service.
