Martin was such a wonderful person and I'm so happy to have known him at the U of R...he was a good friend and wonderful to sing with in the U of R Glee Club and Yellowjackets! He will be missed.

My deepest Condolences... My thoughts and prayers are with your family

Martin is my oldest step brother. He was always kind and inclusive towards me. He was a wonderful man. I share sadness in his passing. I will treasure his last Facebook post to me complimenting me on a picture of myself and my son. I will forever miss his presence. I wish we had more times together as a family and opportunities to create more joyful memories. My deepest sympathies to the rest of my loved ones at this time. You all reside in my prayers and thoughts.

 I first met Martin when he was but a few week old, lying on his stomach with his legs tucked under him in a peaceful, deep sleep. He was beautiful, with finely defined delicate features and, as the first of our families' new generation, precious to all of us. 
Shortly after, his move to the States meant our subsequent meetings have been infrequent and spread over many years so more like a series of thumbnail sketches rather than an ongoing experience. I learned much from Thea, filling in the gaps, and such as a sent newspaper article about him gaining some distinction in his school years including  a photograph of Martin with his cello.  His quiet, pensive, self contained expression  I  came to appreciate as being very much a part of his nature. 
I recall a telephone call when Martin mentioned the family were having  a Christmas Day barbeque. Ha! I said climate change, obviously.   Martin replied we kind'a don't believe in that over here, uncle Stephen.  I later complained to Thea that I was shocked by what Martin had said but she reminded me of his characteristically subtle, ironic humour. 
Perhaps the most memorable and sadly, the last meeting with Martin, was at Neil's Wedding when he generously played host to me at his hotel.  We decided to walk to the hotel from the wedding party and as we did so cars passed by with much hooting of horns,  calls and waving.  I responded by waving back and quite possibly blowing kisses until I queried that I had not recalled that many revellers at the party. Martin patiently explained the cars were not coming from the party and the gestures and shouting were far from friendly.  He said that being seen walking together, late at night, was open to interpretation.  How ridiculous  I protested,  he was my nephew for goodness sake.  Martin thought a while then quietly suggested that, in any potential confrontation, such an argument may, possibly, not be wholly effective.
I shall always treasure the memories I have of him, however brief and fleeting they are.
Not for Martin the big ego and flashy image that most of us use to survive. A very genuine human being;  his life not always as easy as it may have been.

Fond memories of Martin as a small child and his time spent in England. He was a beautiful golden baby, happy, mischievous and full of fun.
