

Matt died at his home in Arlington, Virginia on May 11, 2015, after a long battle with Merkel Cell Carcinoma. He is survived by his wife of nearly 17 years, Michelle Maynard and his beloved daughter Lara. Matt also leaves his father Edward Sunter, brothers Edward (Robin), Stephen, and David, nephews Brendan and Brady Sunter all of East Longmeadow, MA, his aunt and uncle Barbara and James Campion of Yarmouthport, MA, several cousins, and his in-laws Robert and Cecelia Maynard of East Providence, RI. He was predeceased by his mother Sheila Matthews Sunter and his nephew and godson Bryan Sunter.
Born and raised in Springfield, MA, Matt graduated from Cathedral High School in 1974. He received a Bachelor's in Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1979 and a Master's in Information Systems from Marymount University in 2000. Matt had a long career in defense contracting, including 25 years at General Dynamics.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 22 from 9 a.m. until time of funeral mass, 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 3513 N St., Washington, DC.

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Hilton Garden Inn at 1222 Courthouse Plaza in Arlington for Thursday May 21 and Friday May 22. (There is a shuttle to the metro.) Garage Parking:
Daily parking spaces are available in the Southwest Garage of Georgetown University and can be accessed via the Canal Road entrance. The walk to Holy Trinity Church is approximately 0.35 miles. If you are using a GPS or other map service, please use the following address to arrive at visitor parking in the Southwest Garage: 3611 Canal Road, NW, Washington, DC. 20057. http://otm.georgetown.edu/index.cfm?fuse=directions. Hourly parking is $3. Daily parking is $20.
On-Street Parking:
Street parking around Holy Trinity Church is limited, however you may park for up to 2 hours on most streets without a residential permit. A limited number of metered spaces are available on Reservoir Road, 37th Street, and Prospect Street.
Off-Street Parking:
Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School (1524 35th Street, NW, Washington, DC. 20007 has also extended 50 parking spaces to guests attending the funeral. Please tell the guard at the front gate that you are parking for the Sunter funeral, and you will be directed to the far back parking lot. It is about a four-block walk to Holy Trinity Church from the school.
Special Needs Parking:
A few handicapped-designated parking spaces will be reserved in front of Holy Trinity Church on 36th Street.
