Michelle Kiikka Everett

With sincere sadness the family of Michelle Kiikka Everett announces her passing on Thursday, August 6th, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Eugenia Vacchelli Kiikka and her sister Gwen Marie Kiikka. She is survived by her husband David Everett and their children Jessica and Nicholas Everett, all of Arlington, VA as well as her aunts Roberta Etling, Victoria Gingras and uncle Douglas Vacchelli. She is also survived by her mother-in-law Betty Everett and her children Steve, Mike and Julia. Born in Ashtabula, OH Michelle was a graduate of Bladensburg High School class of 1969 and Washington College class of 1973. A lover of her family, literature and the Washington Nationals; she lived an extraordinary life. Her earlier years were full of travel, concerts and adventure exploring the world and meeting the love of her life, Dave, whom she would be married to for 34 years. They welcomed their two amazing children, Jessie and Nick, and she volunteered much of her time in their Arlington area schools where she was able to use her education background. A 27 year survivor of MS, Michelle never let the disease define her. While later in life MS limited some of her physical abilities, it never robbed her of the experience of life. She could often be found reading on her front porch in her swing. She never knew a stranger as her warm smile welcomed anyone passing into conversation. If she wasn’t on her porch, you could probably find her cheering on her beloved Nats. Wherever she sat, she found love and friendship because her soul shown so bright, and whenever Michelle was in your presence you were a better person. A small, private ceremony will be held on Saturday, August 15th at 2PM at Murphy Funeral Home. Guests will be able to watch the livestreamed service, by clicking "Join Livestream" on the date and time of the service. A larger Celebration of her Life will be held at a later appropriate time.
