Nancy Louise McCloskey, 71, passed away in her Arlington, Virginia home on Saturday October 14, 2017, after a 14-month battle with brain cancer.
Nancy was born on August 15, 1946 in Phoenixville, PA to her parents, Teofil and Frances Babacz. She obtained a Bachelor's degree from the College of New Rochelle in 1968, and married Thomas McCloskey in 1970. The McCloskeys moved to Lloyd Harbor on Long Island, New York where Nancy worked as an editor and Thomas worked as an attorney.
Nancy was a talented editor who most recently worked for Reading Plus, a company that designs innovative reading assessments and instructional technology. She lived a very active life and enjoyed walking, riding her bike, and playing pickle ball with friends.
She is predeceased by her husband (Thomas McCloskey), her father (Teofil Babacz), her mother (Frances Babacz), and her brother (Thomas Babacz). Nancy is survived by her two daughters, Meredith and Morgan, their husbands, Matthew MacVicar, Jason Cherish; and two grandchildren Ryan and Maya MacVicar. Nancy is also survived by two brothers, Robert and William Babacz (Suzi), and her sister Cynthia Hafner, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Nancy will be buried at Columbia Gardens Cemetery on October 21, 2017. A visitation will take place at Murphy's Funeral Home located at 4510 Wilson Blvd. in Arlington, VA at 8:30 AM. A funeral service will follow at 10:30 AM. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Nancy's life. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to North Shore Holiday House, a not-for-profit organization that provides free summer camp and experiences to low-income communities, for which Nancy was a long-time board member. http://www.nshh.org/donate
