Reverend Richard Paul Neubauer was born Sept. 12, 1945 to Reverend Fred and Corrine Neubauer in Saginaw, Michigan. He passed away on Jan. 13, 2022 in Virginia. His father’s nickname for him was Shorty even though he was 6’3” tall. Richard graduated from Juneau Douglas High School in 1963. He attended Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri and received a degree in Bible and Pastoral Ministries. Richard graduated from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, also in Springfield, in 1972 with a Masters degree in Theology. Richard was ordained with the Assemblies of God in 1971. He began his ministry as a Home Missionary in Pelican, Alaska in 1967. He was a youth minister at First Assembly of God in Akron, Ohio and an associate pastor at Bethel Temple in Dayton, Ohio. Richard was senior pastor in Columbiana, Ohio and was privileged to become senior pastor in February 1980 of Arlington Assembly of God in Arlington, Virginia for 42 years. Richard had a big heart for missions around the world. He had a calling for and led the way for churches to be built in Paraguay, Thailand, Russia, Ukraine, the D.C. area, West Virginia and a hospital in Eleme, River States in Nigeria. An orphanage was built in Ukraine which he named House of Joy in honor of his wife, Joy. On December 5, 1982 ground was broken for Burke Lake Gardens, which was housing for the elderly and sponsored by Arlington Assembly of God. Richard was president of the Housing Corporation for Burke Lake Gardens for 40 years. Richard part of the Honor Bound Motorcycle ministry and helped establish the first Virginia chapter in May 2001. This ministry has since established chapters all over the United States and has now established a chapter in Ukraine. He was a great model train enthusiasts with a large collection. At Christmas Richard set up a display with trains running for all to enjoy. He was generous with his love, his time and would give you his last dollar. Richard was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Corrine Neubauer, his sister Ruth Arnold, and brother Fred Neubauer, and nephew James Arnold. Richard is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joy Reddin Neubauer, his daughter Aimee Colfer and son-in-law Felix; his son Adam Neubauer and wife April. He was blessed to be grandfather to Ethan and Misha Colfer; Savannah and Ryder Morgan; and Juniper Neubauer. He was a beloved uncle to his nephews and nieces. Richard was pastor and father to his congregation, whom he dearly loved. Richard never met a stranger, he was a friend to everyone he met. A visitation for Richard will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Arlington Assembly of God, 4501 North Pershing Drive, Arlington, VA 22203 with the funeral service starting at 12:00 PM. A graveside will immediately follow the funeral service at National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042.
