

ROBERT "BOB" LANDON LUTTRELL, SR., 88, died on Saturday, October 16, 2010, surrounded by his family to the fourth generation. He was born on November 30, 1921, in Huntsville, Alabama to William Clayton and Gladys Estelle Luttrell. He was a devoted, ever faithful, loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, spending many delightful and wonderful hours with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bob was an active, fit outdoorsman, enjoying handball into his 40's, tennis into his 60's, and golf into his late 70's. In his 80's, he enjoyed visiting long hours with his many friends and family members.
He was a dedicated Christian, being a member of the Memorial Church of Christ, Houston, Texas, since October 2006, coming from the Memorial Road Church of Christ in Edmond, Oklahoma, and prior to that the Norfolk Church of Christ in Norfolk, Virginia.
Bob was a combat veteran of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, receiving numerous awards and unit citations. He entered the United States Marine Corp in June 1940 and retired from active duty in August 1970, being stationed at least once at every major Marine Corps base in the world, influencing many young marines during his career.
From 1970 until retiring in 1980, he served as a Parole and Probation Officer for the Commonwealth of Kentucky in the Louisville office, being recognized for success with drug-related cases. He enjoyed being a part-time real estate broker during several years of his working life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of sixty years, Opal Wheeler Luttrell; his stepson, Buell Holmes; his sister, Martha Ann Saine; and his brothers "Doc", David, and Bill Luttrell. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Kay and husband Steve Walker of Brentwood, Tennessee; daughter-in-law, Wanda Holmes of Glasgow, Kentucky; son, Robert L. and his wife, Kathy Luttrell, Jr. of Houston, Texas and son William E. and wife, Sarah Luttrell of Edmond, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy DeBord of Kingston, Tennessee and Betty Jean Bearden of Summerville, Georgia; a brother, Thomas Luttrell of Plainsville, Georgia; a sister-in-law, Naomi Bishop of Lexington, Kentucky; a brother-in-law, Benny Wheeler of Park City, Kentucky; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. A funeral service was held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 21, 2010, at the Memorial Church of Christ, 900 Echo Lane, Houston, Texas.
