Of Arlington, VA passed away on Friday, July 4, 2014, at the age of 86. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Marian O'Connor Thompson, and his two brothers, Donald, of Belleville, IL and Richard, of Godfrey, IL.
Capt. Thompson was the son of proud parents, Alice and Robert B. Thompson (both deceased) of Alton, IL. He was also preceded in death by his younger sister, Kathleen.
Capt. Thompson served honorably, as a soldier, in the 11th Airborne and was a decorated veteran of the Korean War, after which, until retirement, he served overseas, in the Foreign Service, as an officer of the Agency for International Development. He was an avid golfer and belonged to various related organizations including the U.S.G.A. and the Army-Navy Country Club in Arlington.
He will be especially remembered for his kindness and charity towards all who knew and loved him.
