

Roger W. Cressey, Jr., died unexpectedly on January 16, 2015, in Arlington VA. He was born on September 29, 1928 in Gloucester Mass" and moved to Roxbury Massachusetts for his early childhood before returning to Gloucester, where he spent the majority of his life. He was a Class of 1947 graduate of Gloucester High School and served in the Massachusetts National Guard with Battery A of the 211th Field Artillery Unit. Roger worked for over 60 years as a service technician with Sears Roebuck and Co, at their Gloucester, Salem and Danvers locations. He was a 50 year member of Wesley United Methodist Church, where he served as Trustee and Treasurer and with the International Order of the Red Men, where he served as Sachem. In his spare time, he loved to bowl in the Variety League and the Main Street League.
He lived for many years on Washington Square in Gloucester with his wife Lucille and son Roger III. He and Lucille moved to Arlington VA in 2008 to be near his son’s family and his granddaughters, Katherine and Andrea. In his later years, he travelled the country with his wife and spent much time researching his family history. More than anything, he loved spending time with his granddaughters. He was a proud, kind and sincere man whose quiet nature was accompanied by a great sense of humor that always came out with friends and family.
Roger was the beloved husband of 52 years to Lucille O. Cressey, father to Roger W. Cressey III and devoted grandfather to Katherine and Andrea Cressey, all of Arlington VA. He was the son of Emily Idella (Conrad) (Cressey) Trefry and Roger W. Cressey Sr. He was pre-deceased by his mother, father, sister Eva (Cressey) Sheehan and brother Richard Cressey. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his sister Lillian of Sterling, OK.
A memorial service will be held on January 30th at Murphy’s Funeral Home in Arlington, VA. There will be a burial service in Gloucester in the spring, where he will be laid to rest at Beechbrook Cemetery in West Gloucester, Massachusetts.
