Shirley Ann Reamer, beloved and cherished mother, passed away on November 4, 2025, in Arlington, Virginia. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, courage, and unconditional love for her four boys — Chris, Chad, Walter, and Steve — who were the center of her world. She passed peacefully, surrounded by them.
Shirley lived her life with beauty, grace, and an unwavering sense of responsibility to her family and friends. She could always be counted on to help anyone in need, whether she had known them for a day or for a lifetime. Those who knew her will never forget her kindness, generosity, and the way she made people feel seen and valued. When you spoke with Shirley, you felt like you were the only person in the world. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was quick to laugh and make others laugh.
She found her calling as a dedicated nurse and later as a private caregiver to the elderly, showing them the same love and compassion that she shared with her friends and family. Shirley was a founding member of Emmanuel Bible Church in Keysville, Virginia, where she felt surrounded by God’s enduring love and enjoyed fellowship with lifelong friends. She loved to cook, bake, and nurture all types of plants and flowers. She was happiest when she was outside in her flower beds, rummaging through a thrift store, or settled in with one of her kitties asleep in her lap. She was also a masterful game player, beating her boys at Uno and Spades and winning at slots. Shirley was the most thoughtful gift-giver, always finding the perfect shirt, ornament, or thrift-store treasure.
The daughter of Thomas Henry Reamer and Lillian Frances Hudson (née Wilmouth), Shirley was one of ten children. She loved all of her brothers and sisters dearly. Her brothers James, Ray, and Ronnie “Eddie,” and her sister Thelma preceded her in death. She is survived by Tony and his wife Susan, Pat and her husband Larry, Connie and her husband Johnnie, Gennifer, and Mary.
Her boys, who will forever carry her lessons and her love with them, ask that you honor her memory by taking a moment to show kindness to someone who needs it, just as she always did.
