Susan Marjorie Wood Susan Marjorie Wood, daughter of Michael and Ethel Josephine Shorba, passed peacefully on Sunday December 28, 2025 in Arlington, Virginia and was joined in Heaven with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was reunited with her father, Michael Shorba, her Mother Ethel Josephine Shorba, and beloved Husband Brett Michael Wood. Susan was born January 29, 1943 in St. Paul, MN. Sue attended elementary, junior high and high school in St Paul and attended the University of Minnesota but left to take a job at 3M in St. Paul. Sue would eventually move to Fairfax, VA, and worked for a law firm in Washington, D.C. as a paralegal. She met the love of her life, Brett in 1973, who had family in the same neighborhood. They dated until 1979 and Susan joined Brett in Alaska where they Married and had a son. In 1981 they moved to Virginia to help elder family members. In 1986 Susan and her family moved back to Alaska. Sue loved Alaska for the beauty of nature and hospitality of the people. She worked as a paralegal during this time. She loved hockey and would love going to see the Gold Kings and the UAF Nanooks. Sue and Brett became a host family for the UAF hockey team and help make a retreat for the boys. Sue and Bretts’ love for sport and hospitality transferred to the Goldpanners baseball team. They wanted to make “a-home-away-from-home” for hockey players who came from the heart of Canada to the college baseball players from the U.S. to play in a summer league. Sue and her family would leave Alaska and move back to northern Virginia in 1997. She would find a work again as a paralegal with Judicial Watch until 2000 when She took a position at Hogan-Lovells until her retirement in 2017. Susan loved books and listening to audiobooks and music. She especially loved seeing Gordon Lightfoot in concert when he came to town. She had a passion for watching Washington Capitals hockey and Nationals baseball. She also loved family gatherings. Susan is survived by her son Michael, cousins, nieces and nephews. The Family expresses many thanks to the Nurses, Doctors and Technicians at Virginia Hospital Center for caring for Susan. A memorial service is scheduled for 1:00pm on March 28, 2026 at Murphy Funeral Home located at 4510 Wilson Blvd Arlington, Virginia 22203. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make donations in Susan’s name to The Disabled Veterans of America foundation.
