Werner W. Brandt, 75, of Arlington, VA died Friday, July 11 at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in Cincinnati, OH. He is survived by Martha, his loving wife of 51 years, his two children, Alyssa Brandt (Jay Stowe) of Cincinnati, OH, and Nicholas Brandt (Sharon Meth) of Charlottesville, VA, and his three grandchildren.
Werner served as Sergeant at Arms in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1992 to 1995. Prior to that he worked for 20 years for the late Thomas S. Foley, former U.S. Representative from Washington and Speaker of the House. He joined Foley’s staff in 1972 after serving 10 years in the U.S. Foreign Service where he was posted to Karachi, Pakistan, and Hamburg, Germany. Following his career on Capitol Hill, Werner joined Preston Gates Ellis & Rouvelas Meeds as a government affairs counselor. Recently he served on the board of the Center For Political Accountability, a non-profit non-partisan organization created to bring transparency and accountability to corporate political activity.
A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, July 26, 2014 from 10am-12pm at Murphy’s Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, VA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to www.savethechildren.org
