He was born March 31, 1924 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Charles E. and Katherine (McLaughlin) Gleason. In 1944 he enlisted in the US Air Force and was stationed in Pensacola, Florida.
He married June Kinkelaar in 1955, and moved to West Terre Haute where they built their first home. Their son, Patrick Michael, was born in 1961. In the late 1960’s they settled in the St. Louis area. After retiring from many years working in the Retail Lumber company trade, Ed (known to family as ‘Wayne’) took a part time job working for Heiligtag-Lang-Fendler Funeral home in Arnold, MO.
It’s been said that nothing shows a man’s character more than what he laughs at. Ed had a contagious sense of humor, never passing up the opportunity to share a good joke. His positive attitude, compassion and generous spirit spilled over daily in contacts with friends, co-workers and family.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Pavlisin of Mill Valley, CA; 4 nieces: Mary Graham and Anne Pavlisin of Nevada, Donna Green and Linda Newman of Marin County, CA: his cousin, Dorothy Milner, five second cousins, Steven, Joe, Mark and Bruce Milner, and Kathy Wright all of Terre Haute, IN. His cousin, Ron (Evelyn) Weber live in Collinsville, IL.
He is survived by 3 grandchildren, Adam, Kathleen and Erin Gleason, all of Colorado and two great-grand daughters.
The world lost a great man this day who left a legacy of laughs and love. He will be sorely missed by all who loved him.
Arrangements under the direction of Heiligtag-Lang-Fendler Funeral Home, Arnold, Missouri. Condolences may be offered at www.heiligtagfuneralhome.com.
