Lorraine Dorothy Magee (nee Allgaier); July 2, 1930-January 7, 2026. Beloved wife for 73 years to William Edwin Magee Sr MD, dear mother of Suzanne Magee, William Magee, Jr. (Kathy), Jennifer Cox, Wendy Sarver (Reed); grandmother to ten; great grandmother of 14; aunt, cousin, registered nurse, volunteer and friend to many. She was preceded in death by her parents Dorothy Schultz Cookson and Edwin Francis Allgaier Sr., and step father Curtis Jean Cookson; her brother Edwin Francis Allgaier, Jr; and her beloved grandson William Thomas (Tommy) Grant.
Lorraine was born in St Louis Missouri, attended Roosevelt High School, and graduated from Washington University with a BS in nursing. While working as a nurse, she met a young medical resident at Barnes Hospital which began a seventy three year love story. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, volunteering as a scout leader, and spent 22 years on church senior high mission trips and cherished the frequent opportunities to babysit her grandchildren. She ensured her children were raised in the church and given a love of God, music, art, poetry, nature, education, and family-- encouraging them to be critical thinkers and daring. As her grandchildren came along, Camp Mistwood was born, and in matching shirts, she would lead the family on many adventures with the motto, “Learn everything you can about all you can, wherever you can, whenever you can, for as long as you can.” Her care extended into the community as a leader of the Women’s Association at Trinity Presbyterian church, investment club, gourmet club, St Louis Genealogical Society and the Daughters of the American Revolution. An expert gardener herself, she was a supporter of the Missouri Botanical Garden and generous contributor to many charities. She lived by words she often quoted: Give your children roots and wings. Her family is so blessed to have both.
Her beloved passed only six weeks ago, and so they go hand in hand, continuing their love story with their Lord in heaven.
