Activities, Memberships, Interest:
First and foremost, he was a loving husband and wonderful father!
Running a close second was his love of being a Firefighter/Paramedic whose goal in life was to be a patient advocate and preserve property. He is so proud his son was following in his footsteps, having received his Firefighter 1&2, Hazmat, and within next few weeks he’ll have his EMT. He plans on continuing to get his paramedic as well, like his dad. The end goal was the 2 of them working together on a department “Father and Son” team. In Tom’s mind I (Elizabeth) would return to dispatch so I could continue to tell them what to do (I mean I am good at it).
He loved school and would have been a professional student if I would have allowed it, but learning was “what he did” even when not in school he was always reading, researching, and trying to find the best way to “work a vent” or WHY…why give this medication when this one would work or don’t give this medication because of this condition…..it was a constant thing for him to wonder on the best treatment for any situation.
He loved hockey and watching our son play, he got our son into hockey by lying to me about how much it would cost then it was a done deal because Josh could pretty much skate better than he could walk. Tom would get up and take him to practice at 4am before he would go to work and josh to school, and he never complained. He loved watching his son play like Tom’s dad loved watching him play. Tom even coached a few years and one of the years he was assistant coach him and Josh won the State Championship. Their goal was to play together on the “Old Man Sharks” hockey team in evening.
Tom had a love of fishing, camping, and had just started to learn the guitar. Idle time was not his friend he needed to be doing things, anything so if you asked him to do something and it wasn’t anything he had ever done his answer would have been “Yes”.
Want to skydive? “Yes”
Want to fly a plane? “Yes”
Want to cook a 5-course meal? “Yes”
Well, I take that back because if I asked him to clean then his answer was “NO”.
Tom went to the local gym; he was trying to convince me to join a coed sports team for the family like volleyball or softball.
