With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, Wanda Jean Jones, who departed this life peacefully on May 10, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on November 28,1936 in St. Louis, MO to the late William Ray and Mary Ellen (nee Boyd) Padgett; Wanda was a lifelong beacon of strength, humor, and devotion. Beloved wife of the late Eugene Daniel Jones; She was the proud mother of six children: Linda Susan Jones-Branscum, Eugene Daniel Jones II, Kathleen Jean Jones, Diana Jane Jones, Karen Ann Jones-Froelich and the late Kathleen Ann Jones; dear sister of Dorothy Leonard of St. Louis and the late Charles Edward Padgett, William Ray Padgett, Ronnie Padgett, Della Zieres, Connie Diedrich, Mary Sue Hagen and Ellen Prevoznik; stepsister of Sandra Hawkins, Sherry Helzer, Melvin Padgett, Rose Padgett Loyd and the late Ruth Ann Padgett, Martha Ray Padgett and Anna Padget Sell; and a precious child who went to be with the Lord in infancy. Her legacy of love continues through 17 grandchildren, over 35 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren, and counting.
Wanda was known for her vibrant spirit and sharp wit. She had an unmatched gift for storytelling, always told with her signature flair and infectious laughter. She loved caring for her rose bushes, watching over her grandchildren, and staying in the know—often serving as the “neighborhood watch” long before it had a name.
A natural caregiver and nurturer, Wanda played a central role in raising not only her own children but also generations of grandchildren. Her home was always open, her heart always full, and her presence always comforting.
Though we are heartbroken by her passing, we find peace in knowing she is reunited with her beloved husband, whom she missed dearly every day. Wanda’s love and legacy will live on in all of us.
If you have a photo or memory of Wanda that brings you joy, we would love for you to share it in the comments below. Your kind words and stories mean so much during this time.
