

Betty Carter Turner, age 97, of Ashland, Virginia passed away on January 18, 2025. Betty was born on April 15, 1927 to William Pryor Carter and Eutha Moore Carter in Cullen, Virginia. She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred W. Turner, Jr; her sisters, Evelyn Hall, Ruby Harms and Shirley Norris.
She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Schell (Joe) and Sandra Cole (Kenny); four grandchildren, Greg Cole, Mary Beth Cole, Andy Schell and Katie Schell; a sister, Nancy Church and a foster brother, George Holley (Barbara).
After graduating from Randolph Henry High School in 1944, Betty came to Richmond, Virginia. She graduated from Smithdeal-Massey Business College and worked as a bookkeeper at Aetna Life and Casualty Company until 1959. As her children grew, Betty worked at Hanover National Bank which became First Virginia Bank. She was an active member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church where many knew her because of the pound cakes she would take to celebrations. Betty was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and sister.
Visitation is on Saturday, January 25, 2025 beginning at 1pm at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, 201 Henry St., Ashland, Virginia followed by a celebration of life at 2pm. Private burial will be at Woodland Cemetery.
