Charlotte Paynter Reamy passed away peacefully at the Fleet Landing Retirement Community, Defer Pavilion in Atlantic Beach, FL on Wednesday, August 7th, 2024. Born on June 20th, 1940, in Henderson, NC to Herman and Edna Paynter. She graduated from Henry Clay High School and would later find her interests focused on art and loved continuing her education in art and its many different origins. She was so passionate in her love for the arts.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ryland O. Reamy Jr, her husband of 47 years and their son Ryland O. Reamy III.
She is survived by her two sons Ryland Paynter Reamy (Sandy) and their Children Sampson (Kari), Ericka and Ashley (Jeff) and Ryland Derek Reamy (Sara) and their children Katherine (John), Jack (Megan), Pete (Phoebe) and Matt plus 6 great grandchildren.
To many, she was known as Jo, so aptly nicknamed by her father following his return from World War II. From this point forward, she was known as his little G.I Joe (Jo). Jo loved life and never missed an opportunity to show her appreciation for all of those whom she met along her journey. She always focused on the future looking forward and never backward. She grew up as the only child and daughter of two parents and successful owners of Ashland’s Paynter’s Department Store as well as a five-and-dime store nearby. It was as an employee of Paynter’s Department Store that she developed her love for fashion and jewelry. She married, had sons and traveled the world with her husband studying art, visiting museums, shopping and forming new lifelong friendships from Europe to the mid-east. Missing him dearly, her husband left too soon at age 67 and she found herself surrounded by her wonderful Spinnaker Cove condo friends in Midlothian, VA. She ultimately became the condo complex premier hostess planning and throwing fabulous, themed garage parties and was the secret giver of treats making doorstep deliveries to many of her neighbors. She never forgot birthdays, anniversaries or special holidays worthy of celebration. She was always the first to raise the American flag showing her appreciation for country, military folks and their service. Jo was always up for an adventure and first in the car, especially if it involved shopping! Her mantra was…. if you love it, buy it. You can always find a spot for it. She loved fancy cars, especially if they had a Hemi in it and the engine roar of a good motorcycle. She loved artists, their works and collecting as she had quite a flair for decorating. She loved concerts, the beach and could not resist a good BOGO at Publix or from an Olive and Cocoa catalog. Many benefited from her purchases arriving in her famous treat boxes. And then there were flowers! So many flowers! She could never have too many. She loved her family, and nothing meant more to her than good conversation and big hugs from her two sons. She was so proud of their work ethic and accomplishments. She had a soft spot for family pets and never visited without treats in hand and pocket. Her favorite was a little Pug named Molly. It was finally time…..she heard the music, grabbed her boots, glass of red wine and a lucky penny and with a wink, said “Okay Bye Now!” From your loving family, we will miss you from the bottom of our hearts!
A memorial service will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home- Reid Chapel, 412 S. Washington Hwy. Ashland, VA 23005 on August 17, 2024, at 1 PM followed by the burial at Woodland Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow at Studio 54 Event Hall, 100 N. Railroad Ave., Ashland, VA 23005.
