Edward Bryan Bowles Sr. of Doswell, Virginia died Friday, September 20, 2013, at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Franklin Bowles and Lillian Burnett Bowles; and two brothers, Earl Bowles and William Bowles. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Melton Bowles; his sister, Lois Chenault; three children, Barbara Orth and husband John Orth of Eaton, N.Y., E. Bryan Bowles of Doswell, and Brentley Bowles and wife, Penny Bowles, of Fishersville; and six grandchildren, Emily Webb, William Webb, Christopher Bowles, Bryce Bowles, Genevieve Bowles and Page Bowles. Edward was born on September 30, 1927, in Doswell on the family farm where he resided until his death. Mr. Bowles was an avid hunter and gardener who served his country in the Army before eventually becoming a respected building inspector until his retirement. The family will receive friends at Nelsen Funeral Home in Ashland on Sunday, September 22, 2013, from 1 to 3p.m. and 6 to 8p.m. A private family interment will be held at Mount Olivet Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be given to Mount Olivet Baptist Church.
