Siddons and Samuel F. Madert, as well as two brothers, Samuel F. Madert, Jr. and Howard F. Madert. She is also preceded by a son, Curtis Bateman and a daughter, Marie Minton. She is survived by her son Charles 'Chuck' Bateman and her daughter Elaine Alley Hill, four grandchildren: Daniel Bourne (Kathleen), Kevin Minton, Jesse Hill Jr. (Sarah) and Chelsey Hill, eight great grandchildren, her sister Ann Parrish and sister-in-law Nancy Madert, in addition to several nieces and nephews.
Betty had many jobs in her very long working life, including many years as a bookkeeper for the state of Virginia, but her favorite job was as the school secretary for Pearson's Corner Elementary School in Hanover. She loved her birds and loved feeding them (and many happy squirrels). She liked taking care of her yard, which kept her young, planting flowers in the spring of each year and weeding, and did so until recently. She liked the challenge of a hard puzzle and she was a prolific quilter. But her real passion was for children (related or not) and didn't hesitate to stop strangers on the street to tell them how cute their kids were. She was a very strong person, enduring many hardships, all the while maintaining a positive atti-tude. She was out-going, making new friends later in life, as her old ones passed on. A long time dedicated member of her beloved Living Word Assembly in Glen Allen, she had a loving church family. She was loved by many and we will greatly miss her.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 7th at 11:00 a.m., at Signal Hill Memorial Park at 12360 Courthouse Road, Hanover, Virginia,
23069. In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation to Living Word Assembly (12718 Greenwood Road, in Glen Allen, Va.) the Hanover Senior Ride Program, or the Feed More/Meals on Wheels program.
