Frances K. Slater, 94, of Ashland, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2016 at her residence. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Maxey Slater and daughter-in-law, Sandy Slater. She is survived by two sons, Brant and Bill (Kathy); four grandchildren, Emily Slater, Brantley Slater (Alyssa), Kelly Moser (Nolan) and Paige Slater; one great-granddaughter, Chloe Moser; a step-granddaughter, Lisa Denton (Joey); two step-great-grandchildren, Colby and Emma Denton; sister, Jane Garber and many nieces and nephews. Her extended family includes the members of First Baptist Church, Ashland, where she served in many leadership roles through the years. She was a proud graduate of James Madison University. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 800 Thompson Street, Ashland, VA 23005. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Private interment will be held in Woodland Cemetery.
