He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Ruth Doggett and brothers, Thomas and Eddie Doggett.
James spent 30 years working for the Virginia Department of Transportation and 20 years with Kings Dominion Amusement Park. Many knew him to love Nascar and Football, he enjoyed watching the Washington Redskins and collected Nascar cars. He was a family man who loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly.
James is survived by his wife of 51 years, Linda Doggett; sons, James Jr. (Becky) and Steven Doggett; grandchildren, Sierra, Kelsey, and Justin; great-grandchildren, Logan and Lily; brothers, Douglas Doggett (Barbara) and Raymond Doggett (Gay).
The family will receive friends from 4pm to 8pm on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy. Ashland. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Thursday, September 17, 2020 at Nelsen Funeral Home with graveside to follow at Woodland Cemetery, 11310 Hanover Ave, Ashland. The family asks guests to wear casual attire.
