Jane Cross Wait

passed away to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 22, 2023. She was born on March 13, 1945 in Ashland, Virginia. She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Robert Stephenson Wait, her parents Virginia Melton and Charles Kenneth Cross, and her two sisters Peggy Carwile and Beverly McCullen. She is survived by her children Mary Courtney Wait Speer (Greg) of Charlotte, NC, Stephen Todd Wait of Cave Creek, AZ, and Virginia Lynn Wait Thomas (Mark) of Newport News, VA, and grandchildren Nicholas Robert Speer and Lauren Scott Speer. She leaves behind many cherished aunts and cousins, nieces and nephews and their children she counts as her grandchildren.

Jane is retired from the University of Richmond where she worked in the Lora Robins Gallery. She attended Independence Christian Church in Ashland. She was an active member of the Ashland community, she was an Ashland Museum board member, served on Friends of the Ashland Library, Ashland Hanover Untold Stories Committee, and was a member of the Ashland Community Gospel Choir. She enjoyed time with her many friends playing bunco, bridge, mahjong and was part of book clubs. Jane and Rob were honored in 2005 with Tree Farmer of the year by the Virginia Forestry Association for Five Poles Tree Farm.

Everyone who knew Jane will remember her for her joy for life, sense of humor, faith, and her unforgettable laugh.

Relatives and friends are invited to Jane's visitation on Sunday, October 29, 2023 from 2-4pm at Nelson Funeral Home in Ashland. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 30, 2023 at 11am at Independence Christian Church, 14023 Independence Rd, Ashland, VA. Interment will immediately follow in Woodland Cemetery.
