SMITH, John William “Bill”, of Ashland, passed away on November 23, 2014. He was the son of the late Thomas and Woodress Smith. He was preceded in death by a brother, Steven Smith. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Betty Smith; daughter, Betty Moring (Michael); three grandchildren, Adam, Todd and Blair; and a host of cousins. Bill was a business man in Ashland and was known by many. He also served as a Marine in the United States Marine Corps. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at the Nelsen Funeral Home, Reid Chapel, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, VA 23005, where a service will take place at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 26, 2014. Interment will follow at Independence Christian Church cemetery.
